Santa Caterina and surrounding area

Bormio

Between woods and glaciers

Santa Caterina is a magic Fairyland. To reach this village, 1738 meters above the sea level, you must travel along the river Frodolfo, surrounded by a thick pine forest. Then, at the end of the valley, you will get to a sunny plain, where this ancient Alpine pasture stands. From here, on the left hand-side you can find the Valle dei Forni with its refuges located beside the largest glacier in Europe; on the right side the Gavia valley, one of the most famous passes bikers climb during the Giro d’Italia.

The wild Val Zebrù, which can be reached only by walking or by Jeep, is another amazing valley to visit. It is situated in the Stelvio National Park core, where eagles fly and ibexes graze under the snowy peaks of the Gran Zebrù (in German Königsspitze, King’s mountain) or the Confinale.

Valtellina: this valley in the centre of the Alps is not only famous for skiing, but it also offers fascinating and unexpected opportunities all year long:
Valtellina a land to love
